Letter to the Editor: Technology first vs. local doctors?

Posted

To the Editor:
At the public meeting March 7, Dr. Kapp in his presentation was pushing Mercy for the sole purpose of having more technology available. He did not address a more important issue of having full time local physicians and specialist on STAFF!
I feel our local and on site physician services in our area are more important than VERY enhanced technology.
In our smaller community I think better healthcare is more important.
Apparently, he has not looked at ALL the advantages our community will have if we have a nursing school and degrees in the medical field from SEMO. We would have access to ALL these medical services locally, after their completed courses. Go Vote in April!

To the Editor:
I would like to explain that I made a misstatement in the public forum held at Robinson Construction Event Center on February 14. I said that the county commissioners do not return calls. This was a totally incorrect statement and I personally apologize to the commissioners for having made that statement. Our county commissioners function very well and we are fortunate to have the team that we have.
Election day, April 5, is approaching very quickly. Our county has several seats up for re-election. We need to encourage each other to learn about these candidates and get out and vote.
Lastly, the situation with our Perry County Hospital having a publicly elected board and a private board is no longer appropriate for our county. The private board consists of five appointed individuals who secretly make important decisions for our county hospital. There is no justifiable reason for this situation today. I request that everyone look into this situation and learn about this structure. We need to evaluate whether the privately appointed board is still of value and consider if it should be abandoned.
