Board swears in aldermen

The Perryville Board of Aldermen made quick work of the agenda at their latest meeting April 16. While the meeting itself was short, the aldermen did some rearranging of things on the board. Several aldermen took the Oath of Office after the April 2 General Municipal Election.
Perryville Mayor Larry Riney, Ward 3 Alderman Clint Rice ran unopposed in their race, while Ward 1 Alderman Deanna Kline was sworn in. Kline takes over for Tom Guth, who chose not to run for reelection after 13 years on the board. Ward 2 Alderman Curt Buerck was sworn in after defeating Christopher Wilson during the election. Jeremy Triller was sworn in after being appointed Perryville Fire Chief earlier this month.
During the meeting, the board approved grant proposals for proposed for Alma Avenue Sidewalk Project from McDonalds Drive to Highway 51, from Edgemont Boulevard Sidewalk Project from Highway 51 to Vincentian Way, and Vincentian Way Sidewalk Project from Edgemont to Route T. The Edgemont to Route T proposal will be of first priority.

The board also approved the repeal of the City’s Airport Advisory Board. As previously discussed with the Board and made more necessary with the recent resignation of two airport board members, this ordinance will repeal the City’s airport advisory board. Instead of quarterly meetings with appointed representatives, staff will encourage more immediate suggestions and frequent feedback from all users of the airport facilities.
During the consent agenda, the board approved a change order for the Perry Park Center Exterior sign project. Now that the building is painted, it is ready for the new signs. Originally, we worked with Brewer Signs on the specifications and advertised the project for bid, having received several bids from local companies. The scale of the aquatic center sign proved insufficient when staff reviewed the artist renderings of what the building will look like with the sign on it. Although the sign remains the same general design, it has been increased in size to better match the building and its location.
The board set a public hearing for a special use permit request from Rinehart Properties, LLC to build self-storage units on Lots 17 and 18 of Colonial Plaza Sides Manor Subdivision. The proposed location is in the vicinity of the Holiday Inn and Days Inn properties. This is a highly trafficked commercial area but staff questions if the location would be better suited as a traditional retail, restaurant, or strip mall development. It is hoped the answer to these questions becomes clearer during our review process.
