Letter to the Editor: Go Vote

Dear Editor
As we open our eyes this Easter season to what creation has brought us: amazing vistas of blooming trees, flowers, the greening of grasses and leafing of the trees which provide us the oxygen which give us life, we need to also open our hearts, minds and souls to its centrality to us and to our lives.
One of our major political parties loves to fixate on Life. Let’s go back to our first awareness as human beings. The eyes and smiles of hopefully loving parents and family, other human beings who share the joys of this life, the smells, sights and sounds of food, sky, birds, warm & cool winds, clouds, hills, mountains, woods, undulating plains and prairies. Think back to our memories of it, think to our beautiful offspring. As toddlers we joy in it, exult in it, as we should, it is creation! It is for us: to joy in, embrace, care for, protect, with all our will and energy, as we learn of, from and about it, grow into it.
But, as we grow, we find ourselves unavoidably inundated by our interactions with others: by slights, perceived insufficiencies, loss, hurt, fear and an often overwhelming and pervasive envy, jealousy and extraneous fear “helpfully” fed by frankly dishonest, greed and power focused media.
It is time to open our hearts and minds to that creation which is still here if we only look and which will feed our bodies and our souls if we let it.

It’s time to protect it, preserve it, husband it and our fellow children of God who share it with us.
Unless we do, it and we will disappear, and God will weep.
It’s our choice. Listen, read, vote. We are all citizens of creation.
