Gremaud earns honor at Semoball Awards

Perryville senior Anna Gremaud can add another award to her already impressive amount of feats this summer. The Perryville Pirate defender was named the Female Soccer Player of the Year at the Semoball Awards on July 8.
Gremaud beat out fellow teammates Kyla Schnurbusch and Carlie Holdman for the honor, along with Jackson’s Justi Nelson and Abby Klund, Notre Dame’s Allie Buchheit and Kathryn Taylor, Sikeston’s Karris Allen, Saxony Lutheran’s Anna Mueller, and Poplar Bluff’s Madalyn Berry.
Gremaud was named the Class 2 Defensive Player of the Year and received first-team All-State honors after helping lead the Pirates to a fourth-place finish in Class 2 this spring. It was the program’s first trip to the Final Four in history. Gremaud led a defense that allowed 17 goals in 24 games.
The Perryville boys soccer team had the most nominees as Dayton Strattman, Ty Baudendistel, and Bryce Brewer were named in the category for Boys Soccer Player of the Year. Saxony Lutheran’s Paul Kaufmann joined the Perryville group in the category. However, they were beat out by Jackson’s Wil Essner for the honor.
Essner received United Soccer Coaches All-American honors in 2021 and landed on the USCA All-Central team. He was named the Class 4 Co-Offensive Player of the Year and received first-team All-State honors for a Jackson squad that finished second in Class 4.
Saxony Lutheran senior Anna Thomason is nominated in the girls track category, which was given to Delta’s Kendall Holweg.
The Delta product, who is a SEMO commit, finished her career with three state championships, winning the Class 1 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 300-meter hurdles.

Thomason finished with a Class 2 state championship in the 100-meter hurdles. The Southeast Missouri State commit also finished second in the triple jump, high jump and the 4x100-meter relay at the state competition.
Perryville junior pitcher Alyson Stortz was also nominated in the Softball Player of the Year, which was given to Holcomb’s Alyssa Brown.
Brown received first-team All-State honors in Class 1 as a pitcher for her performance during the Hornets’ third-place finish at state.
Stortz was named to the All-State second team in the fall, helping lead the Pirates to a fourth-place finish in Class 3 for the best finish in program history. He had more than 200 strikeouts on the season and pitched every inning in Perryville’s postseason run.
Perryville boys and girls soccer coach Jerry Fulton was nominated in the Coach of the Year category, which was awarded to Kennett Tennis coach Janet Hilburn, who helped lead the Indians to a state championship.
Fulton led the boys program to a second place finish in Class 2 and the girls to fourth in state, the program’s best finish ever.
Hayti’s Trayvon Thomas took home the Male Athlete of the Year Award, while Holweg took home the Female Athlete of the Year Award,, the top two honors on the night.
