The Perry County Military History Museum recognized a pair of charter members during a decent Recognition Ceremony on May 1 in the Perryville City Park.
Sally Modde and Sergia Pecaut were honored as charter member as they take a lesser role in the organization.
“Both Sally and Sergia served for years as volunteer docents whenever our museum was open to the public,” Museum Board President Tom Nations said. “Docents are the face and voices of our museum. They steer visitors to what they came to see, and answer questions and document artifacet donations. Docents have the power to make visitors feel welcome and leave with a good experience. They provide the human touch for all of those who come.”
Modde and Pecaut were honored with pavers near loved ones on the Wall of Honor.
Pecaut’s paver was installed near her husband Harold Pecaut, a U.S Army veteran of the Korean era. Modde’s paver was installed near Clarence “Chuck” Modde, also a Korean era veteran.

“Long after we are gone this memorial will say what we feel today,” Nations said.
Nations continued with more kind words for Modde and Pecaut.
“Sally and other charter members decided we would join together to preserve the past, protect the future and keep the promise to the veterans we love and respect,” Nation said. “Charter members had the ideas and the will to make a real museum happen with their time and resources.”
He had similar words for Pecaut and her time with the museum.
“Sergia gives her time to help others,” he said. “For years she would come to our monthly meetings, offer ideas and questions about veteran events, plus join us at these evets to help make the successful. I value her input and admire her support for veterans. Now that she has to curtail some of her activities I miss her smile and advice.”
