Edwin F. Unverferth, 85, of Red Bud, Ill., passed away at 10:12 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021 at his residence.
He was born to the late Edwin F. and Mary (nee Schumer) Unverferth on Oct. 31, 1935 in Perryville.
Ed married Shirley I. Trammell on May 17, 1958 in Perryville; she preceded him in death on June 24, 2002.
He had worked in the Accounting Department for Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years.
Ed was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Red Bud, Ill., American Legion in Perryville and Knights of Columbus in Perryville.
He also served as a Cub Master and Scout Master for a number of years. He was also a member of the elite group - Tennessee Squires.
He was an Air Force Veteran.
Edwin is survived by five children: Dennis (Linda) Unverferth of Red Bud, Ill.; Jeanette Morgan (Michelle Gibson) of Belleville, Ill.; David (Julie) Unverferth of New Athens, Ill.; Steven Unverferth (Andrew Cowell)of Belleville, Ill.; Donna (Steve) Law of St. Louis. Three siblings Joan Welker of Perryville; Jim Unverferth of Raymond, Neb.; Mary Ann Becker of Perryville; eight grandchildren Abigail, Erin & Andrew Unverferth, Daniel Morgan (John Johnson), Amanda (Nathan) Prescher, Erica (Brandon) Wobbe, Tim Corbitt (Melissa Routt) and Crystal (Paden) Joseph; 10 great-grandchildren Isabella, Henley and Ashtyn Prescher, Corbin and Callie Wobbe, Kaitlyn, Olivia and Jackson Corbitt and Alex & James Joseph; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, eight siblings – Joe Unverferth, Rosemary Healy, Ruth Baer, Alma Schumer, Thomas “Pete” Unverferth, Sonny Unverferth, Regina Unverferth and Jack Unverferth.
Visitation was Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Red Bud, Ill. with Msgr. Dennis Schaefer officiating, with a funeral mass. Burial was in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Operation Ride Home.
