A Perryville man was arrested Friday after shooting his son-in-law during a late-night altercation on Thursday in Perryville.
According to reports from the Perryville Police Department, Michael David McAtee, 65, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree domestic assault and armed criminal action, both felonies. McAtee was booked into the Perry County Sheriff's Office on a $100,000 cash-only bond.
At approximately 11:32 p.m., several 911 phone calls were made to the Perryville Police Department and the Perry County Sheriff’s Department reporting shots fired in the 200 block of West South Street in Perryville.
As officers responded to the area, a male subject arrived in the lobby of the police department on Jackson Street stating he had been shot in the chest.
The subject was transported by EMS to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Officers responding to the 911 calls were able to locate the residence at 228 W. South St., where they observed a male and female subject standing out in front of the residence.
When officers approached and asked if either had a gun, the male, later identified as McAtee, told officers he had a handgun on his person. He also admitted to firing two rounds at his son-in-law during an argument between the two men in the driveway of the residence.
According to McAtee’s statement, the victim was not welcome at the residence and when he was told to leave, the victim told McAtee he was waiting for his wife to return whether McAtee liked it or not, “so shoot me if you want to.”
McAtee said he responded, “Alright,” and then fired two rounds at the victim, one of which struck him in the upper torso.
The victim then ran to the police department, located about four blocks away, and requested medical assistance.
