Plenty of people put on their running shoes this weekend.
The Mid America 5K had its best year yet as the annual event was held Saturday at the TG-Missouri Trail.
Approximately 191 runners ran the race, which was the most for the event in its history.
“It’s definitely the best turnout that we had,” event organizer Clint Rice said. “We had more spectators than usual and had good support from both schools, who volunteered.”
The event had more than 300 people register for the race, which was also the most for the event.

“A lot of the people register just to get the shirt or donate to the cause,” Rice said.
The proceeds go to the athletic departments of Perryville and St. Vincent schools, but no total has yet been announced, although Rice believes that the event should be the most successful yet.
“I know that we definitely raised more money than in the past,” he said.
Kenny Stephenson was the top male runner with a time of 19:54 and Sara Schemel was the top female runner at 24:09.
The money will be presented to the schools during halftime of the Perryville/St. Vincent football game.
