John “Matt” Matthew Alexander, 56, of Littlerock, Calif., slipped into the arms of God at his home on Sept. 1, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Matt was born Aug. 24, 1968, in Long Beach, Calif., the son of Jack Alexander (deceased) and Thelma Alexander-Spence.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Jack Alexander, his grandfather, Harold J. Michaud and his aunt, Lydia Michaud-Hunt, along with numerous other family members from the Perry County area.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his grandmother, Phyllis Michaud and his wife of 35 years, Ruth Alexander and their four children. Ellen Bowes (Kevin), Heather Grier (Josh), Leigh-Anne Alexander, Alex Alexander and two grandchildren, Caiden Alexander and Amelia Bowes.

Matt spent many of his growing-up years in Perryville, which he considered his “hometown.” He graduated with the class of 1986 from PHS. He then relocated to Southern California where he spent the remainder of his years.

Matt was an active member of IBEW Local 40 for approximately 33 years and spent 31 years working for the movie studios in the HVAC/Electrical industry. However, Matt would tell you his biggest accomplishment and the joy of his life was his family.

Matt will be remembered as a man of faith, a devoted family man, a wonderful husband, father and “Papa,” along with his quick wit, sense of humor and willingness to help others. He was an outdoorsman with a passion for fishing. When Matt wasn’t with his family, you could find him in his red metal flake bass boat... hoping for that tight line and the thrill of the catch! He then would release his catch to enjoy again on another day.

A Celebration of Life and Gathering of about 200 friends and family was held in his memory on Sept. 14th at Glad Tidings Church in Lancaster, Calif.
