Letter to the Editor: Local Neighbor

Posted

Dear Editor
Last week the Opinion-ator (this page’s most vocal local contributor) criticized District 32’s decision to utilize a learning system (Amplify), that should help with the development of Public School literacy. Would it surprise anyone if the Opinion-ator praised Amplify next year or next week?
Not long ago our vocal neighbor called for fresh thinking on our School Board, but fresh thinking troubled him last summer when a new mayor was elected.
In the spring of ‘22 our vocal neighbor referred to the Republican Party as a “big tent,” suggesting that the organization could accept dissent and a wide range of views, but 5 weeks later he argued that Party membership hinged on a single factor, devotion to Donald Trump.
Last week our neighbor asked us to read about the tragic sinking of the Titanic, and we need to applaud his discretion, he didn’t blame the sinking on a Liberal iceberg.

“Have you no shame?” that’s what feac-mongering Joseph McCarthy was told Jn 1954. When he insinuated that the U.S. military was infiltrated with Communists. Hinting that District 32’s teaching staff would radically change the upbringing of Perry County youth is equally absurd. Is it too late to have a rubber room added to our new Justice Center?
Our vocal neighbor frequently writes in a phrase-y, Jack Kerouac style, which undercuts his Conservative point of view. On occasion, he out-beatniks the beatniks, offering us strings of words framed by capital letters and periods with nary a verb to be found in-between. He may not be our best guide when it comes to a teaching system designed to improve literacy.
The product of American Public Schools, Bob Dylan, was awarded the Noble Prize for Literature largely by remaining true to a lyric he wrote before he could shave, “I’ll stand on the ocean until I start sinking. But I’ll know my song well before I start singing.”
The Opinion-ator sings and sings but he does not seem to know his song,
