Indians set team record in victory over Grandview

The records continue to fall for the St. Vincent girls basketball team.
Two days after the Indians set the record for most wins in a single season (22) and sophomore Allie Patrick set the new mark for points in a single year (425 points and counting), the Indians set another mark on Thursday.
The Indians pulled away in the second half to defeat Grandview 41-21 at Grandview High School.
“It was a low scoring game again,” St. Vincent coach Mel Kirn said, “But we played good defense, which is something we are going to need the rest of the year.”
St. Vincent was held to 30 points, the team’s lowest total of the season, in a victory over Grandview on Jan. 12.
“Grandview slows it down and they have a couple of taller girls, who cause us some problems inside, because we are not a big team,” Kirn said. “I was pleased with our team effort and there were some shots we should have finished.”

Cailyn Prost led the way for St. Vincent with 11 points, while Allie Patrick added nine, and Rylee Robinson had eight.
All those points helped the Indians set a new single season record for total points in a season with 1,429 as a team. The previous record was 1,392 points.
“It’s probably not a record that a lot of people know about, but it’s in our record book,” Kirn said. “It gives the girls something to shoot for. It’s been a total team effort to get a record like that.”
St. Vincent averages 57 points per game this season, but Kirn doesn’t really consider his team a prolific offense.
“We score around 55 points every game and we give up about 33, so you are looking at a 15-20 spread in some of these games,” Kirn said. “Some of these games are closer than they appear at the end. When you get to the fourth quarter, the game is only separated by five or six and we pull away”
