Commissioners seek input on project

Several individuals from Short Elliott Hendrickson, an engineering, architectural, environmental and planning company based in St. Paul, Minn., took part in a Zoom call with the Perry County Board of Commissioners earlier this week.
It’s a continuation of an exploratory effort to seek more information before major decisions are made in regard to a joint justice center.
SEH has been linked with Kiefner Brothers Construction of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Perryville.
Monday was opportunity to discuss options for what will eventually be a county and city of Perryville structure.
“We're excited about it, looking forward to the long process that it’s going to take,” said District 1 Commissioner Jay Wengert.
No final decisions have been made at this point, including a specific location.
“It starts with a quality design that leads to a quality structure,” said Daniel Triller, one of those involved in the Monday meeting, along with Perry County presiding commissioner Mike sauer, District 2 commissioner Keith Hoehn as well as others involved with SEH.

It wasn’t the first time the commission has entertained ideas and proposals from consultants regarding the justice center. It won’t County Clerk Jared Kutz.
“We’re meeting with entities who have contacted us about the justice center,” Kutz said. “It’s about learning what method of delivery will work.”
Determining that method of delivery is key, according to Kutz.
Jason Wondersee told the commission a little more about HOK, a design firm with extensive experience in a number of fields. In addition to justice, the company also has a focus on healthcare, sports, aviation, hospitality as well as science and technology.
Wondersee pointed out the firm has overseen more than a dozen projects related to justice, including courthouse facilities in Union (Anna, Ill.) and Ogle (Oregon, Ill. counties.
Robinson Construction will be part of the conversation later this spring, according to Kutz.
Kutz said the commission will stop visiting with those interested parties on or about May 10.
