Candidates file for municipal elections

Perryville City Hall was busy on Dec. 5 as it was the first day for candidates were able to file for elections for a position on the Board of Aldermen and Perryville Mayor.
The election includes three aldermen seats: Ward 1 – Tom Guth; Ward 2 – Curt Buerck; and Ward 3 – Clint Rice.
Buerck and Rice have already filed as incumbents, while Guth has not. Deanna Kline did file for the Ward 1 seat on Monday. Perryville Mayor Larry Riney also filed to remain as mayor.

Any person wishing to seek office must file a declaration of candidacy with the city clerk, pay a $25 filing fee, and meet the qualifications required for the position they wish to hold.
For Aldermen: a person must be 21 years of age, a citizen of the United States, resident of the City for one year preceding election, Resident of the Ward from which he is elected and a qualified registered voter.
For Mayor, a person must be 25 years old, a citizen of the United States, a resident of the city at the time of the election and for at least one year preceding election, and qualified registered voter.
The filing period for candidates ends Dec. 26 with the General Municipal election on April 2, 2024.
