Alderman make quick work of agenda


The Perryville Board of Aldermen made quick work of the agenda during its latest meeting March 7, as Tom Guth led the meeting as Perryville Mayor Larry Riney was not in attendance.
The board recognized three new city employees which included Recreation Supervisor Cindy Huck, Maintenance Technician for water/sewer Noah Kiefer, and Maintenance Technician for the Water Plant/WWTP Jeff Freidman.
In the consent agenda, the board approved plans and specifications for the School Street Lift Force Main Replacement Project. This project will connect the eventual School Street lift station to the new trunk line. The city is still working on the final priority order and much will depend on April’s variance hearing with MoDNR. At this time, it is our best estimate that next year’s project will either be the School Street lift station or the necessary gravity and force mains to connect it to our trunk line.
There was corrections made to the mural in the side of Johnson and Niswonger building. There were some concerns expressed in the community that the mural’s car was driving over the United States flag instead of being “wrapped in the flag” as was originally intended.
The city worked with the artist to correct this and the finished mural has been properly sealed.

After the consent agenda was sorted through, the board addressed new business which included: an agreement with The Estates of Perryville, LLC, relative to emergency use of the Perry Park Center.
This agreement provides that the Perry Park Center will serve as a temporary place of respite if there is an emergency at their nursing care facility. It does not, however, include overnight sheltering or extended hours. It is meant to simply buy them time to coordinate placements.
The board also discussed definitions when it comes to marijuana facilities. This is a stopgap measure meant to buy time for a full review and potential rewrite. In short, it simply provides recreational marijuana may be sold in the same zones as medicinal marijuana.
This is done to prevent a situation where someone wants to open a new retail space and our zoning ordinances don’t speak to it. City Attorney Art Pistorio is currently reviewing the full language with the intent of reworking city ordinances in the near future.
In his City Administrator report, Brent Buerck discussed the airport fly-in which is scheduled for May 20. This will include airplanes, helicopters and also a B-25. Buerck also mentioned the Show-Me Green Sales Tax Weekend, which is scheduled for April 19-25.
The next meeting is scheduled for March 21.
