Three injured, two seriously, in Perry County pickup accident

Two people were seriously injured, and one moderately hurt, in a one-vehicle accident that occurred at 7:31 p.m. July 19 on Route E at Perry County Road 208.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the wreck took place when a westbound 2003 Chevrolet 1500 pickup driven by a 17-year-old male from Perryville failed to negotiate a curve to the left and traveled off the right side of the roadway, striking a ditch, an embankment and a tree.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, was transported to Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis by Arch 4 helicopter, where he was treated for serious injuries.

Two male occupants in the pickup who were not wearing seat belts were also injured.

Alexander T. Smith, 23, of Jackson, was transported to St. Louis University Hospital by Air Evac helicopter, where he was treated for serious injuries.

David T. Hebert, 25, of Perryville, was transported to Mercy Hospital Perry by Perry County Ambulance, where he was treated for moderate injuries.

The pickup truck, which was reportedly totaled in the wreck, was removed from the scene by Perry County Towing.
