Saxony Lutheran had plenty to be happy about as they graduated 54 students on May 19 in Gerhard Birk Gymnasium.
The Class of 2024 set several records for the school in their four years, which included having earned more than 750 college credits, with 63 percent of the class earning at least one full semester.
The Class of 2024 address was given by Grace Ozark, Grace is the daughter of Chad and Dawn Ozark of Perryville. Grace will be attending the University of Mississippi in the fall to pursue a degree in Public Policy Leadership and International Studies with a minor in national security. Grace was nominated by her classmates to deliver the student address. Mr. Ruark noted that “Grace was selected after being nominated by classmates and through an audition process by a committee of faculty members. Grace is a multidimensional student who has excelled in academics, athletics, and fine arts. She is an excellent choice to be the student class speaker.”
Ozark said that she learned many lessons during her time at Saxony.

“As freshmen, we were encouraged to not be afraid and meet new people,” he said. “As sophomores, we were given a little more freedom having drivers licenses. We set goals as we prepared to be upper-classmen. Juniors were hit with the realities of being grown-up with ACTs, college courses and experiencing new adventures. As seniors, it has been a great year. We have learned to love one another and encourage each other to be better. We are hard-working, and are excited what it means to be a Crusader and highlight “SaxonyWay.”
The Class of 2024 has selected staff member and alumni, Mrs. Melanie Roth, to deliver the commencement address. Mrs. Roth is a 2013 graduate of Saxony Lutheran High School and a 2017 (bachelor’s degree) and 2018 (master’s degree) graduate of Truman State University. She is currently the social studies teacher and the Student Council sponsor at Saxony Lutheran High School.
She said that the students have waited their entire lives to graduate high school, but will continue to wait for moments their entire lives.
“Maybe waiting was what I was supposed to talk with you today,” Roth said. “Like waiting until you move away for college, or start a full-time job. Or waiting on that camping trip. Sometimes waiting will be a little harder. Like, when you’re waiting for the results of a medical test, or waiting for work to be over after a hard day. Having patience can be a struggle. What do you do while you wait? How do you use it for your advantage? Use that time for personal growth. Just as your waiting isn’t over, so too is the learning. Use the periods of waiting to learn about your gifts and put them to work. You may be surprised the news talents and abilities you may have Use them to be a blessing to others and those around you.”
