FARMINGTON — Behind a trio of top-6 individual finishes, the St. Vincent boys golf team captured the team title at the 3rd Annual Bogey Creek Invitational on April 7 at Bogey Creek Golf Club.
The Indians posted a team score of 329 (+41) to edge Bloomfield (332) and Notre Dame JV (338) in a competitive 24-team field that featured 124 golfers. Perryville finished 16th with a 374 (+86).
St. Vincent coach Eric Clements said the performance reflected how well his team has been playing as a unit.
“Yeah, the kids have stepped it up and are just … playing great,” Clements said. “Playing as a team. I know that’s hard to think about when you’re golfing, but they did really well.”
Samuel Koishor led the Indians with a 78 (+6), finishing 3rd overall. Brecken Reiss followed with a 79 (+7) to take 5th, while Quinton Doza added an 80 (+8) to place 6th.
Adam Brickhaus carded an 84 (+12), and Kaden Meyer shot an 85 (+13) to round out St. Vincent’s team scoring. Also competing were Colden Prost (88, +16) and Liem Nations (91, +19).
The Indians’ depth proved to be the difference, placing five golfers in the top 20 and separating themselves late from the rest of the field.
Clements said getting another round on the Bogey Creek course — the site of the state championships — is valuable for his team.
“That course is nice, it’s a difficult course,” he said. “Just getting familiar with it is really great for the kids.”
For Perryville, Derek Martin led the way with an 84 (+12), finishing tied for 17th. Aiden Wendel followed with an 89 (+17), while Trey Lukefahr shot a 96 (+24). Mason Ehlers added a 105 (+33), and Jackson Stark finished with a 106 (+34).
Pirates coach Rick Dunn noted the size and competitiveness of the event.
“That’s the biggest tournament we’ve seen this year,” Dunn said.
Individually, St. Pius X’s Landon Thomas earned medalist honors with a 74 (+2), while Bloomfield’s Hollis Jines finished second with a 77 (+5).
For St. Vincent, the victory continues a strong stretch of play early in the season, while Perryville gained experience against one of its toughest fields of the year.
A day later, St. Vincent turned in a balanced performance to defeat Perryville 160- 185 on April 8 at Perryville Country Club.
The Indians placed 6 golfers in the top 7 to pull away from the Pirates, who were led by medalist Derek Martin.
Martin paced all golfers with a 37 (+2) to earn top honors for Perryville.
St. Vincent followed with a tight pack of low scores, led by Colden Prost, who shot a 39 (+4) to finish 2nd. Brecken Reiss and Quinton Doza each carded a 40 (+5) to tie for 3rd, while Samuel Koishor added a 41 (+6) to place 5th.
Liem Nations rounded out the Indians’ top group with a 42 (+7) for 6th, and Adam Brickhaus finished 7th with a 44 (+9).
Perryville’s depth was led by Aiden Wendel and Jackson Stark, who each shot a 49 (+14) to tie for 8th. Trey Lukefahr and Waylon Buerck followed with matching rounds of 50 (+15), while Mason Ehlers carded a 53 (+18).
