NOTRE DAME 12, SAXONY LUTHERAN 1
CAPE GIRARDEAU — Tournament host Notre Dame got off to an early start in the final round of the Notre Dame Softballfest on Saturday, building a 9-0 lead over Saxony Lutheran in four innings, then adding on 3 more runs in the fifth to set the final score at 12-1.
The Lady Bulldogs scored 2 runs in the first, including a home run from Kynna Johnson, added 4 more in the second, 2 in the third on a Claire Robert home run, and 1 in the fourth before Saxony managed a run of its own, as Natalie Brown scored on a single from Kinsley Marsh to make it 9-1 after 5 1/2 innings. Notre Dame sealed the victory in the bottom of the fifth, as Maria Seyer hit a 3-run home run to center field to set the final margin.
Madilynn Hager took the loss for Saxony Lutheran after giving up 12 runs — 7 earned — on 11 hits, striking out 2 and walking 2 in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Marsh was 1 for-2 at the plate for Saxony with 1 RBI, and Brown was 2-for-2.
SAXONY LUTHERAN 15, TIMBERLAND 4
CAPE GIRARDEAU — Saxony Lutheran scored 9 runs in the first inning on the way to a 15-4 victory over Timberland 15-4 on Saturday in the third round at the Notre Dame Softballfest.
In the first inning, Ohna Boland had an RBI single; Madilynn Hager walked to force in a run; a run scored on Natalie Brown’s ground out; Bridget Wilson walked to force in a run, as did Jenna Unterreiner; Boland hit another RBI single; and Kessly Scholl singled in 2 more to make the score 9-1.
Saxony Lutheran extended its lead in the second, scoring 5 runs on 3 hits — including an RBI single from Wilson, and 20-run double from Ansley Palisch to make it 14-4, then added one more run in the fourth.
Brown earned the victory for Saxony Lutheran, giving up 4 runs — 2 earned — on 5 hits, striking out 1 and walking 1 in 5 innings of work.
SAXONY LUTHERAN 9, VAN BUREN 8
CAPE GIRARDEAU — The Lady Crusaders were trailing 8-7 in the bottom of the sixth Friday in the second round of the Notre Dame Softballfest when an error by Van Buren allowed 2 runs to score, giving the Lady Crusaders a 9-8 victory over the Lady Dawgs.
The two teams traded the lead back and forth for most of the game, with Saxony taking a 2-2 lead in the bottom of the second, going up 4-2 in the third and 6-5 in the fourth. Van Buren tied the score 6-6 in the fifth, then took an 8-6 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
Saxony Lutheran closed the gap to 8-7 on an RBI-single from Ansley Palisch before a Van Buren made an error on Madilynn Hager’s grounder, allowing Boland and Jenna Unterreiner to score, making it 9-8.
Saxony starter Mabrie Barke gave up 8 runs — 4 earned — in 5 innings, striking out 8 and walking 6. Natalie Brown earned the win in relief after 1 inning of work Saxony’s Ohna Boland was 2-for-4 at the plate with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.
SAXONY LUTHERAN 12, EAST CARTER (ILL.) 0
CAPE GIRARDEAU — Saxony Lutheran scored 12 runs in the fourth inning and held East Carter (Ill.) scoreless on Friday in the opening round of the Notre Dame Softballfest.
That first inning run included several big hits, as Ansley Palisch hit a solo inside-the-park home run; Jenna Unterreiner had an RBI triple; and Ohna Boland, Kessly Scholl, Natalie Brown and Kinley Faulkenberry each had an RBI double.
Madilynn Hager earned the win for Saxony Lutheran, holding East Carter scoreless on 4 hits in 5 innings, striking out 8 and walking 1.
FREDERICKTOWN 9, SAXONY LUTHERAN 6
FREDRICKTOWN — Fredericktown scored 9 runs in 3 innings Thursday to hand visiting Saxony Lutheran a 9-6 loss Thursday.
Kessly Scholl finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBI for Saxony, while Palisch finished 3-for-4 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. SAXONY LUTHERAN 11, ST. PIUS X 1 Saxony Lutheran starter Madilynn Hager held St. Pius X to 1 hit in 5 innings, striking out 12 and walking 1 batter as the Lady Crusaders rolled over St. Pius X 11-1 on Sept. 2.
Ansley Palisch was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI for Saxony Lutheran.
