The Saxony Lutheran boys hot streak didn’t just end with the regular season. It has continued into the postseason as well.
Saxony pulled away from Scott City in the second half to defeat the Rams 67-44 in the opening round of the Class 3, District 2 Tournament at Saxony Lutheran High School. The victory extends the Crusaders’ 13-game winning streak that began in mid-January.
Saxony senior Aaron Zoellner led the Crusaders with 20 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter to stymie any sort of rally from the Rams. Luke Eggemeyer scored 17 points, all of which came in the second half. Max Richey followed with nine points.
The Crusaders (17-8) jumped out to a 20-4 lead, as the Rams focused its defense on stopping Eggemeyer with a triangle and two formation. Others stepped up as Richey and Landon Ochs each had five points in the quarter and the Crusaders made a trio of three-point baskets.

Both teams were sluggish in the second quarter as they combined for just 11 points, with four of them coming from Saxony as they led 24-11 at halftime.
Eggemeyer scored 13 points in the third quarter as the offense got back on track and the Crusaders won the quarter 22-12. Saxony led 46-23 entering the fourth quarter.
Brenden Beussink led the Rams with 12 points, as Nathan Ham and Kalen Conner had six each.
The Crusaders played the second seed Woodland Cardinals on Wednesday in the district semifinals. The Cardinals cruised past Chaffee 94-49 in the opening round.
