Russell J. Schumer

Russell J. Schumer, 83, of Old Appleton, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Mercy Perry Hospital.
He was born August 6, 1940 in Perryville, to Herman and Minnie (Huber) Schumer.
Russell and Patricia Blechle were married on June 19, 1965 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek, MO.
He served in the United States Marines Corps.
Russell worked in maintenance for the auto manufacturing industry.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek, Knights of Columbus, and UAW Local #136. Russell took care of the Shrine at St. Joseph Catholic Church for years. He enjoyed woodworking and was a professional storyteller. Russell loved to laugh and enjoyed his grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Billy J. (Michelle) Schumer of Perryville, MO, Gerald Schumer of Old Appleton, MO, Andy (Karen) Schumer of Oak Ridge, MO; three daughters, Lisa (Juan) Ruiz of Old Appleton, MO, Theresa Amschler of Old Appleton, MO, Angela (Jim ) Palmer of Old Appleton, MO; brother, Steve (Sandra) Schumer of Perryville; sister, Mary (Jerry) Schafroth of Perryville; sixteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia Schumer; brothers, Gary, Roger, & Allen Schumer; sister, Kathy McCune; son-in-law, Kevin Amschler.
Visitation will be from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville. Visitation will continue on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 8-9:15 am at Ford & Young Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass was Thursday, January 18, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Benz officiating with Rev Jim French and Rev. Tony Dattilo as concelebrants.
Burial was at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Apple Creek.
Memorial contributions may be given to Old Appleton Brushhawks.
