Record-setting finishes for Indians in first meet

CAPE GIRARDEAU — The St. Vincent and Saxony Lutheran boys and girls track teams turned in several strong performances March 21 at the Notre Dame Frozen Invitational, highlighted by multiple school records for the Indians.

St. Vincent’s Reagan Meyer led the way with a record-setting performance in the girls' 800 meters, winning the event in 2 minutes, 13 .19 seconds. The time established a new personal record, school record, and Notre Dame meet record.

The Lady Indians also received a fourth-place finish from Brynn Renner in the 400 meters (1:05.58). Kaitlin Lobbig placed 12th in the 400 (1:08.31), 24th in the 200 (30.63) and 34th in the 100 (14.78), while Payton Unterreiner finished 30th in the 200 (31.58).

On the boys' side, St. Vincent posted several notable efforts in both track and field events. Jack Seabaugh set a new school record in the 100 meters, finishing 10th in 11.20 seconds, and added a fifth-place finish in the 200 (23.16). Kale Meyer was 26th in the 100 (11.81) and 10th in the 200 (24.19), while Layton Cheaney also competed in the 100 (12.87).

In the 400, Carter Hennemann placed fifth in 52.34, followed by Bo Burgin (56.57) and Hunter Mattingly (58.37). Carter Herman added a 12th-place finish in the 800 (2:15.74), while Jackson Strattman ran 2:32.41.

In distance events, Luke Ryan finished 11th in the 3,200 (12:26.20), and Caden Hadler followed in 13:11.69.

St. Vincent also turned in strong performances in the field events, where Kellan Pitts set a new school record in the high jump at 1.75 meters, placing 10th. Pitts also finished eighth in the long jump (5.90) and sixth in the triple jump (11.99). Mason Naeger added a 15th-place finish in the high jump and competed in the triple jump.

In the throws, Kelby Meyer led the Indians in the discus (18.36) and placed 27th in the javelin (27.49), while Mason Naeger threw 23.80 meters in the javelin.

St. Vincent’s relays included a 12th-place finish in the 4x100 (46.78), an eighth-place finish in the sprint medley (1:50.98) and a fifth-place finish in the distance medley relay (12:09.02).

Saxony Lutheran was led on the boys' side by Maksim Mayhew, who placed second in the 400 meters in 51.61.

Clark Jones added a fourth-place finish in the javelin (45.07) and was 17th in the long jump (5.45), while Otis Turner III placed 11th in the 300 hurdles (45.99) and 17th in the 110 hurdles (19.90). Nicolas Chambless led Saxony in the 800 (2:23.53), followed by Henry Klaus (2:26.51) and Leviticus David (2:30.08).

The Crusaders’ relay teams placed 14th in the 800 (1:51.17), fifth in the 1,600 (21:38.17) and eighth in the distance medley (12:39.82), along with a ninth-place finish in the sprint medley (1:51.43).

For the Saxony Lutheran girls, Raylee Matthews led the way with a sixth-place finish in the 800 (2:39.15). Emmy Bengtson (2:43.69) and Briley Meyr (2:51.48) also competed in the event.

Sarah Seabaugh placed 16th in the 100 (13.63), while Madilynn Hager was 11th in the 200 (29.08). In the 400, Eva Williamson (1:12.26) and Lydia Hitt (1:12.57) turned in solid performances.
