Perryville Save-A-Lot to close Feb. 17

Perryville will soon see the end of a local grocery store in the near future.
Save-A-Lot will close its doors on Feb. 17.
“We take the decision to close any Save A Lot location very seriously.” Save-A-Lot Director of PR & Community Engagement Sarah Griffin said. “The independent licensee who owns and operates the Perryville location has made the difficult decision to close as a result of changing market conditions. We are grateful to our customers for their loyal support in this location.”
Perryville recently welcomed Aldi to the community on November 2, 2023, along with longtime grocery stores Roziers Food Centre and Farm Fresh.

Save-A-Lot took over for then Perryville Market in the summer of 2022.
“This was not a decision made lightly or hastily. The store is doing great and it was not an issue of having money problems or anything of that nature,” A Perryville Market Facebook post said on May 22, 2023 about changing of the name to Save-A-Lot. “Running a business in this economy is difficult, yes, but that is not the reason for this change. An opportunity to bring a company like Save-a-Lot to this community is the main reason for this decision because we believe it will benefit Perryville.”
The store itself has been around for more than 35 years when then owner John McDaniel built the store in 1989.
Since then it has undergone multiple name and ownership changes including AlKievs and ALPS.
