MSHP responds to three injury accidents in past week

The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to three local injury accidents in recent days, including a one-vehicle wreck that took place at 12:10 p.m. Oct. 9 on Missouri Highway 51 in Bollinger County, leaving a Perryville woman with serious injuries.

The patrol reports that the accident occurred when a southbound 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Haylee Perkuhn, 41, Perryville, ran off the right side of the roadway and overturned.

Haylee, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt when the wreck took place, was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by Air Evac, where she was treated for her injuries.

The vehicle, listed as “totaled,” was removed from the scene by Hulvey Towing.

– Another one-vehicle wreck that took place at 8:45 p.m. Oct. 10 on northbound I-55 at the 128.4-mile marker in Perry County left a Mississippi man with serious injuries.

According to the patrol, the crash occurred when a northbound 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Tony V. Holpe, 62, of Holly Springs, Miss., traveled off the roadway before returning to the roadway and then traveling off the left side, striking a creek bed.

Holpe, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was transported to Mercy Hospital South by Air Evac helicopter, where he was treated for his injuries.

Perry County Towing removed the vehicle from the scene, which reportedly received “moderate” damage.

– A two-vehicle wreck that took place on northbound I-55 at the 127-mile marker resulted in a Benton man receiving moderate injuries.

The patrol reports that the accident occurred when a deer ran onto the interstate, impacting the front of a northbound 2017 GMC Terrain driven by Michael G. Smith, 55, of Benton. The front of a northbound 2017 Toyota 4Runner driven by Leigh A. Rampley, 65, of Jackson, then hit the rear of the GMC Terrain, causing it to run off the right side of the roadway.

Smith, who was reportedly wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision, was transported by Perry County Ambulance Service to Mercy Hospital Perry, where she was treated for her injuries.

The GMC Terrain, which received “extensive” damage, was removed from the scene by Perry County Towing. The Toyota 4Runner, which was “totaled,” was removed from the scene by Cape County Towing.
