Sylvester G. Kirn, 92, of Perryville, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, at his residence.
He was born July 20, 1932, in Perry County to George S. and Josephine (Gebhert) Kirn.
Sylvester and LaWana K. Zahner were married in 1957 at the Assumption Church in Perryville. She survives him in Perryville.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Sylvester was a retired truck driver for Gilster MaryLee. He enjoyed camping, horses and tractors. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #133 in Perryville.
Survivors include his wife; son, Terry J. Kirn; daughter, Marsha (James) Gleason; brother, Joseph Kirn; two sisters, Alice Boxdorfer, Virginia Lappe; two grandchildren, Shelley Macklin, Terry Kirn, Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Melvin Kirn; sister, Viola Gibbar.
Visitation was held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, at Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville and continued from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct 14, 2024, at the funeral home. Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2024, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville with Rev. Joe Geders C.M. officiating. Burial was at St. Boniface Cemetery in Perryville. Military Honors were provided by the Delta Team and American Legion Post #133.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Journey Hospice.
