IMPERIAL — St. Vincent continued its strong start to the season, capturing the Windsor Tournament championship with 3 wins in 4 days, improving to 9-1 overall.
The Lady Indians opened with a 3-1 win over Seckman on April 6, followed by a 4-1 comeback victory over Fox on April 7, and closed the tournament with a 3-0 shutout of host Windsor (Imperial) on April 9.
Against Seckman, St. Vincent built a 2-1 halftime lead and added an insurance goal in the second half. Lana Adams scored 2 goals, while Morgan Schnurbusch added another. Sloane Wibbenmeyer played a key role in the attack with 3 assists, and Chloe House secured the win in goal, allowing just 1 goal.
The match turned increasingly physical late, but the Lady Indians maintained their composure.
“We kept our composure and played our game,” St. Vincent coach Cari Barnes said. “That’s something I’m really proud of — we don’t play dirty, and I thought the girls handled that really well.”
St. Vincent followed with a dominant second-half performance in a 4-1 win over Fox on April 7. Despite controlling much of the first half, the Lady Indians trailed 1-0 at the break before erupting for 4 unanswered goals.
Adams again led the way with 2 goals and an assist. Schnurbusch added a goal, while Wibbenmeyer contributed a goal and an assist. House earned the win in goal, allowing just 1 goal.
“We told them at halftime to keep doing what they were doing,” Barnes said. “We were controlling the game, and if we kept that intensity and effort, things would start to fall — and they did.”
St. Vincent capped the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Windsor. The Lady Indians led 1-0 at halftime before adding 2 more goals in the second half.
Adams scored 2 goals, while Wibbenmeyer added another. Schnurbusch and Rylee Robinson each recorded an assist. House and the St. Vincent defense combined for the shutout, limiting Windsor’s scoring chances throughout.
Barnes said Windsor’s formation created early challenges, but her team adjusted as the match progressed.
“They played a different formation that threw us off a little bit, but we were able to adjust,” Barnes said. “We controlled a lot of the game and found ways to finish.”
Wibbenmeyer, a freshman, continued to impress throughout the tournament, contributing in all 3 matches.
“She’s just a hustler,” Barnes said. “She doesn’t quit, and we’re really excited about what she brings to the team.”
Overall, Barnes said the tournament provided a valuable test for her team against more physical and competitive opponents.
“We had to match a different pace and level of physicality than we’ve seen recently,” Barnes said. “I think the girls handled it really well, and I’m super proud of them.”
With balanced scoring, strong midfield play and a steady defensive presence, St. Vincent carried that momentum through the tournament and outscored its opponents 10-2 over the 3 matches.
