Indians, Crusaders shine

CAPE GIRARDEAU — St. Vincent and Saxony Lutheran turned in strong, wide-ranging performances April 11 at the Cape Invitational, with both programs posting top finishes.

On the boys’ side, St. Vincent was led by Carter Hennemann, who won the 800 meters in 2:03.40 and placed 2nd in the 400 (52.28). Kale Meyer added a 6th-place finish in the 200 (23.59), 6th in the 400 (53.45) and 10th in the 100 (11.90), while Jackson Seabaugh took 2nd in the 100 (11.42).

Hunter Mattingly placed 16th in the 200 (25.12). In the distance races, Luke Ryan finished 9th in the 1,600 (5:21.43), Caden Hadler was 12th (5:32.28), Jackson Strattman placed 9th in the 3,200 (12:35.07), and Collin Tilley was 11th (12:54.74). Carter Herman added an 8th-place finish in the 800 (2:12.65).

In relays, the Indians were 6th in the 400-meter relay (45.60), 3rd in the 800-meter relay (1:33.59) and 5th in the 3,200-meter relay (9:33.40).

In the field events, Mason Naeger tied for 6th in the high jump (1.73 meters) and placed 16th in the triple jump (10.83), while Kellan Pitts finished 11th in the long jump (5.34), 7th in the triple jump (11.72) and 11th in the high jump (1.68). Layton Cheaney added a 22nd-place finish in the long jump (4.71).

In the throws, Noah Pecaut placed 12th in the shot put (12.13 meters) and 16th in the javelin (28.41), Austin Miller (26.95) and Alex Ponder (26.93) finished 22nd and 23rd in the discus, and Ethan Finger was 29th in the shot put (8.71). Kelby Meyer added a 22nd-place finish in the javelin (23.91).

Saxony Lutheran was led by Maksim Mayhew, who won the 400 (51.70), placed 3rd in the 200 (23.22) and 5th in the 100 (11.60).

In hurdles, Nashaun Davis won the 110-meter hurdles (15.11), while Ozzie Turner placed 9th (17.25) and added a 7th-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (45.66).

In distance events, Nicolas Chambless placed 4th in the 1,600 (5:01.61), Evan Ward was 6th (5:04.54) and 11th in the 800 (2:16.77), while Mark Richey finished 4th in the 3,200 (11:22.46) and Jacob Schupp was 7th (12:02.09). Leviticus David placed 13th in the 800 (2:18.67).

In sprints, Jackson Hager placed 25th in the 100 (12.94), 22nd in the 200 (26.97) and 16th in the 400 (58.79), while Phisher Outman was 18th in the 400 (1:00.17), and Madden Cortez finished 23rd in the 100 (12.92).

The Crusaders placed 5th in the 1,600-meter relay (3:46.20).

In field events, Clark Jones placed 4th in the long jump (5.70) and 4th in the javelin (44.13). Alan Rudd added a 9th-place finish in the long jump (5.40).

In the throws, Landon Buchheit placed 20th in the shot put (10.50) and 20th in the discus (27.40), Joseph Baker was 26th in the shot put (9.69) and 25th in the discus (24.51), Luke Welsh finished 27th in the shot put (9.41), and Theodore Tracy was 31st (6.53) while also placing 28th in the discus (18.67).

For the St. Vincent girls, Reagan Meyer led the Lady Indians with a 1st-place finish in the 1,600 (5:08.45). Brynn Renner placed 2nd in the 400 (1:02.02), while Kaitlin Lobbig added a 5th-place finish (1:04.86) and was 11th in the 200 (29.20).

In the 800, Audrey Amschler (2:46.05) and Adeline Carlton (2:47.41) placed 6th and 7th. Anna Welker finished 4th in the 1,600 (5:58.66) and 3rd in the 3,200 (13:25.82).

Emma Moore placed 17th in the 100 (14.24), and Payton Unterreiner was 17th in the 200 (30.60).

In relays, St. Vincent won the 1,600-meter relay (4:14.76), placed 4th in the 800-meter relay (1:55.66) and 7th in the 400-meter relay (55.77).

In the field events, Sydney Taylor placed 15th in the long jump (4.02), 7th in the triple jump (8.45) and 12th in the discus (20.68). Camille Lauck was 22nd in the long jump (2.96).

Taylor Schumer placed 11th in the shot put (7.91), 21st in the discus (16.63) and 23rd in the javelin (17.36), while Sybina Nations was 23rd in the shot put (6.97).

Raylee Matthews led Saxony Lutheran with a 6th-place finish in the 100 (13.29), 5th in the 800 (2:42.46) and 8th in the long jump (4.50).

Madilynn Hager placed 10th in the 200 (28.98), 6th in the 400 (1:05.01), 7th in the discus (25.07) and 12th in the javelin (26.07). Eva Williamson was 18th in the 200 (30.61) and 10th in the 400 (1:08.49), while Jasmine Bennett placed 19th in the 100 (14.32) and 11th in the 400 (1:09.82).

In the 800, Lydia Hitt finished 12th (2:51.20). In distance events, Briley Meyr placed 6th in the 1,600 (6:03.12), and Megan Birk was 14th (7:47.21).

Rena Matthews added a 4th-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (51.96), 12th in the long jump (4.15) and 10th in the javelin (26.98).

In relays, the Crusaders placed 4th in the 1,600-meter relay (4:35.90) and 9th in the 800-meter relay (2:05.51).

In field events, Casey Call placed 6th in the shot put (9.34), 2nd in the pole vault (3.20), 5th in the high jump (1.37) and 8th in the javelin (28.42). Ashley Perkins added an 18th-place finish in the long jump (3.56), 20th in the shot put (7.38) and 19th in the javelin (18.52).
