FARMINGTON — St. Vincent delivered a complete team performance on April 1, capturing the championship at the North County Tournament at Bogey Creek Golf Club.
The Indians finished with a team score of 312, edging runner-up Farmington by 2 strokes in a 17-team field that featured several larger schools. The victory marked a significant milestone for the program, as it was the first time St. Vincent has won the event.
“It was really exciting for the kids,” St. Vincent head coach Eric Clements said. “That’s a big tournament, and to come out on top against that kind of competition says a lot about how they’re playing right now.”
The tournament featured a unique format that tested teams in multiple ways, combining traditional individual scoring with best ball and scramble components.
St. Vincent excelled across all formats.
Colden Prost and Quinton Doza led the way in the best ball portion, combining for a score of 74 to take 1st place in their division. Adam Brickhaus and Liem Nations added a strong performance in the scramble, finishing 3rd with a 70.
In individual play, Sam Koishor paced the Indians with a round of 79 to finish 5th overall. Prost followed with an 80 to place 7th, while Brecken Reiss and Doza each carded rounds of 87 as St. Vincent placed multiple golfers among the top finishers.
Clements credited the team’s depth and consistency as key factors in the win.
“Golf is an individual sport, but these guys really are playing as a team,” Clements said. “They’re supporting each other and finding ways to contribute, no matter the format.”
The victory also provided valuable experience at Bogey Creek, the site of this year’s state championships. St. Vincent will return to the course later in the season, giving the Indians multiple opportunities to become familiar with its layout.
“It’s a challenging course,” Clements said. “Getting to play it more than once during the season is a big advantage for us.”
St. Vincent’s strong showing comes during a busy stretch of the schedule, with the Indians competing in multiple events in a short span. Despite the demanding slate, Clements said the team has embraced the challenge.
“These kids are driven,” he said. “Even on their days off, they’re working on their game. That makes a big difference.”
With the win, St. Vincent continues to build momentum early in the season while establishing itself as a contender in both tournament and postseason play.
