A long-standing fixture in the comunity is calling it a career. Dr. Joe Hutchison is retiring after five decades in dentistry.
He felt like that was enough.
“After 50 years of service, it is time for me to enjoy my time off,” he said.
Dr.Hutchison has only ever provided care for the residents of Perryville because “It’s where I made my home, he said.
Dr. Hutchison graduated from the University of Missouri  School of Dentistry in June 1972 and returned Perryville..
Other than providing patients with teeth cleanings and other dental needs, it is the relationships he has built over the years that he will remember most.
“I have gotten to meet and know people that I may never have had the opportunity to meet if I wasn’t a dentist,” he said.

Many of those people haven’t only been patients but became more than that in a sense. He stated that he will miss  providing  care  for the thousands that  has honored  him by selecting him as Doctor and friend and thanked them all for the memories.
“They have become family to us,” he said. “We have generations of patients with long standing friendships.”
Not only will he miss his patients, but also the staff that he has worked with for many years. They have helped patients with dentistry needs and he has leaned on them for many things.
“My expert staff has been great” he said. “Margie, Jessica, Kim, and Denise will continue to help provide care with the new dentist. My staff has been a real asset to me during my years of practice.
Katie Boxdorfer and Kevin Mattingly will take over the practice from Hutchison. He believes they will provide excellent care to patients.
“I certainly wish Dr. Mattingly and Dr. Boxdorfer the very best in their new practice,” he said. “I have treated patients from other states as well as Perryville and I feel confident the care will continue.”
Dr. Hutchison plans to enjoy his retirement by traveling to favorite places with his wife Marsha ,  doing farm related activities and working on his hobbies and maintaining his many friendships.
