Festus sweeps conference meet

HILLSBORO — Festus dominated both sides of the meet April 29-30, sweeping the boys and girls team championships at the Jefferson County Athletic Association Conference Meet at Hillsboro High School.

Festus won the boys title with 196 points, finishing ahead of Jefferson (Festus) (100), Herculaneum (93), Desoto (83) and Hillsboro (68). Perryville placed 7th with 41 points, followed by St. Vincent in 8th with 38.

On the girls side, Festus scored 237 points to claim the championship, followed by Windsor (Imperial) (114), Herculaneum (109), Hillsboro (93) and Desoto (69.5). St. Vincent finished 7th with 43 points, while Perryville was 8th with 6.

St. Vincent’s girls delivered one of the top individual performances of the meet, as Reagan Meyer swept the distance races. Meyer won the 800 (2:20.06) and the 1,600 (5:12.45). Audrey Amschler placed 11th in the 800 (2:48.64).

In the 400, Brynn Renner finished 3rd (1:01.53), while Kaitlin Lobbig was 9th (1:05.93). In the 200, Paige Leible placed 11th (30.59) and Payton Unterreiner was 14th (32.39).

St. Vincent’s relays also scored, finishing 2nd in the 1,600-meter relay (4:12.10), 3rd in the 3,200-meter relay (10:26.66) and 6th in the 800-meter relay (1:55.02).

In the field events, Sydney Taylor placed 11th in the discus (25.10 meters). Taylor Schumer was 14th in the shot put (7.89), 12th in the discus (23.13) and 13th in the javelin (19.67). Sybina Nations finished 16th in the shot put (7.43) and 12th in the javelin (21.59).

The St. Vincent boys were led by Jackson Seabaugh, who placed 6th in the 100 (11.55) and 5th in the 200 (23.42). Kale Meyer added a 7th-place finish in the 200 (24.05) and was 10th in the 400 (54.52).

Carter Hennemann placed 6th in the 400 (53.01) and 4th in the 800 (2:02.52), while Carter Herman finished 11th in the 800 (2:10.57).

In the relays, St. Vincent placed 3rd in the 800-meter relay (1:34.56) and 5th in the 400-meter relay (46.61).

In the field events, Noah Pecaut placed 10th in the shot put (12.37 meters) and 18th in the discus (30.53). Daniel Sauer finished 18th in the shot put (9.81) and 20th in the discus (22.40). Mason Naeger placed 15th in the javelin (33.36), while Kelby Meyer was 18th (27.30).

Perryville’s boys were led by Dezmen Hampson, who won the high jump with a clearance of 1.84 meters.

In the throws, Destyn Morgan placed 2nd in the discus (45.72 meters), while Ben Huber was 4th (43.25) and also finished 9th in the shot put (12.55). Sergio Mendoza placed 20th in the shot put (9.23).

On the track, Micah Brown placed 7th in the 400 (54.22) and 10th in the 800 (2:09.60), while Jacob Goehman was 14th in the 400 (58.51). Javier Fuentes-Luna finished 18th in the 800 (2:55.63).

In the javelin, Adrian Mendoza placed 10th (35.84 meters) and Cyler Myers was 13th (33.84).

Perryville’s girls were led by Alexa Hagan, who placed 14th in the 800 (3:06.17), while Lucy Blythe finished 13th in the 1,600 (7:22.09).

In the field events, Paula Sticht placed 11th in the shot put (8.71 meters), while Kaygan Stell was 14th in the discus (21.68).

Saxony Lutheran’s varsity athletes competed in the field events.

Austin Miller placed 22nd in the shot put (8.35 meters) and added an 11th-place finish in the discus (26.66). Ethan Finger finished 24th in the shot put (7.95) and 19th in the discus (20.92).

On the girls side, Sydney Taylor represented the Crusaders with an 11th-place finish in the discus (25.10 meters).
