The weather for the annual Mid America Rehab 5K Rally Run & Walk, held Saturday on the City of Perryville TG 5K Trail, was cool and comfortable under mostly sunny skies.
It was a beautiful day to welcome a little bit of fall-like weather back to southeast Missouri. Around 250 runners and walkers began showing up early to warm up and pick up their bib numbers before the start of the race, which began just a few minutes after 7:30 a.m.
Clint Rice of Mid America Rehab was pleased that the turnout was even greater than last year.
“Last year’s 110 runners were easily the highest number of participants we had ever had. This year’s 250 runners were a great example of how the race continues to grow. We had a great number of people running and people walking again this year, and it looked like there were more kids this year, too,” Rice said.
He added that the turnout is essential because it means more money is raised for the Perryville and St. Vincent High School athletic programs.
“We give half of the money raised to each school,” he said. “What they do with it is up to them. We don’t earmark it for anything specific other than athletic programs. We’ll be presenting the checks to the schools during halftime at the Perryville/St. Vincent football game.”
When asked if Mid America Rehab plans to host the 5K Rally Run & Walk next year, Rice said, “Absolutely.”
