Eli Abernathy had a successful season as a member of the St. Vincent Indians football team. Although he is far from the biggest player out on the field, Eli ran for several touchdowns during the season and was an important part of the team’s 12-1 season.
Abernathy is very excited to be playing ball for Missouri Baptist in the fall.
“It’s a different feeling,” he said. “And I’m blessed to have that feeling, for sure. Football has always been my biggest passion. Growing up, all I’ve known is playing football, playing sports. When I finally came here to St. Vincent and am now getting ready to play football at college, it’s like nothing I’ve ever felt before. It’s different. Something my dad always told me was that football is one of the best things around, so I just grew an attachment to it. It’s been my dream to play college football, let alone football in general.”
Asked how he felt about his son signing with Missouri Baptist, Jeff Richelman said, “I’m ready for more football!”
Abernathy’s mother, Penny, had a little more to say.
“I’m just super proud of him,” she said. “He really worked hard to get this. He deserves it. He did a great job.”
Abernathy wanted to make sure the readers knew of his appreciation for his parents.
“Those two are my biggest supporters,” he said. “I couldn’t have done it without them.”
