Vestel “Mike” Marion Yates

Vestel “Mike” Marion Yates, 88, of Perryville, passed away at his home after a lengthy illness November 13, 2023 in Perryville.
He was born July 5, 1935 in Scott County, IL, son of Oscar Yates and Cleta M. (Tipsword) Yates.
Mike was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He worked as a operating engineer for Local 513, and then 12 years as a corrections officer before he retired.
He was a member of Local 513 for 55 years, Boy Scouts of America, American Legion of Perryville, MO, and the NRA. Mike was very proud to be a part of Local 513, being an Eagle Scout, serving as a Scout Master. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cooking, woodworking, clock making and most importantly spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Nancy Lou (Kanyo) Yates of Perryville, daughters, Cindy L. (William) Ford of Kalispell, MT, Mindy S. (Steven) Huskey of Perryville, step-son, Jimmy D. (Evelyn) Hudgins of Chesterfield, IL, granddaughters, Amy (Andy) Kirk of Columbia Falls, MT, Anna (Rev. Chazz) Upton of Kalispell, MT, 2 great-grandchildren, and in addition to numerous other loving family members and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Yates, and his mother, Cleta M. Yates.
Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
