Teams kick off season with jamborees

It’s not exactly the first games of the season, but multiple teams will have the opportunity to see how they stack up against other opponents before the games count.
The St. Vincent and Perryville football teams, the St. Vincent, Perryville, and Saxony volleyball teams, the Perryville and Saxony boys soccer teams, and Perryville softball team will compete in jamborees in the coming days to prepare for the first game.
Perryville football will travel to St. Pius and compete with the host Lancers, Lutheran South and Crystal City at 6 p.m. on Aug. 18.
The teams will play 12 offensive defensive snaps against each other.
The Pirates recently completed its annual green/white scrimmage and football coach Brent Roth is anxious to face other squads but is focused on getting his team ready for the season.
“We will keep working on ourselves and keep doing what we have been doing,” Roth said. “We have everything in, but now we have to perfect it.”

The St. Vincent football team will stay home to take on Portageville, East Prairie and Kelly at 6 p.m. It is a change of venue from previous years that saw the Indians go to Scott City.
Perryville boys’ soccer will host its own jamboree at the Bank of Missouri Soccer Complex at 5 p.m. Perryville will compete with Fredericktown, Sikeston and Northwest High Schools. Each scrimmage will be 25 minutes long.
Saxony Lutheran soccer will travel to North County for its jamboree on Aug. 19 at 10a.m. The Crusaders will play the host Raiders and Gateway Science Charter. The scrimmages will be 35 minutes long.
Perryville softball will also host a jamboree on Aug. 22 at 4:30 p.m. on the fields on Huber Road. Perryville will play three innings against Fredericktown, Hillsboro, and DeSoto.
The Perryville and St. Vincent volleyball teams will stay in town as the Indians will host the Pirates along with Ste. Genevieve, and Valle Catholic at 5 p.m.
Saxony Lutheran volleyball will travel to Farmington to take on the host Knights, North County, and St. Paul at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 23. Teams will play 2 sets to 15 points against each school.
