SV boys, girls add another title sweep

MOKANE — St. Vincent put together a dominant performance on May 16 at the MSHSAA Class 1 Sectional 1 meet at South Callaway High School, as both the Indians boys and girls teams captured sectional championships and qualified multiple athletes for the state meet.

The St. Vincent boys won the team title with 77 points, finishing ahead of Van Buren (55), while Valle Catholic and Hayti tied for 3rd with 41 points apiece. Vienna rounded out the top 5 with 35. On the girls side, the Lady Indians claimed the sectional crown with 66 points, followed by Christian Fellowship (53), St. Elizabeth (37), New Haven (32) and Valley (28).

Jack Seabaugh and Kale Meyer paced the Indians boys team with standout sprint performances. Seabaugh won both the 100-meter dash in 11.13 seconds and the 200 in 22.97, while Meyer finished 3rd in the 100 (11.60) and 2nd in the 200 (23.40), with both athletes earning state berths.

Meyer also placed 5th in the 400 in 53.90.

Carter Hennemann added another sectional title for St. Vincent, winning the 400 in 52.08 while finishing 3rd in the 800 in 2:04.42 to qualify for state in both events. Carter Herman placed 7th in the 800 in 2:18.83.

The Indians also advanced 3 relay teams to state. The 800-meter relay team of Kale Meyer, Carter Hennemann, Bo Burgin and Jackson Seabaugh narrowly missed a sectional title, finishing 2nd in 1:33.03. St. Vincent’s 400-meter relay squad of Layton Cheaney, Bo Burgin, Hunter Mattingly and Seabaugh placed 2nd in 45.55, while the 3,200-meter relay team of Luke Ryan, Caden Hadler, Jackson Strattman and Carter Herman finished 4th in 9:07.93.

In the field events, Mason Naeger placed 2nd in the high jump at 1.80 meters and finished 4th in the triple jump at 12.03 meters to qualify for state in both events. Kellan Pitts added a 4th-place finish in the high jump at 1.74 meters, took 5th in the triple jump at 11.92 meters and finished 6th in the long jump at 5.94 meters. Noah Pecaut secured a state berth in the shot put after placing 4th with a throw of 13.11 meters.

For the Lady Indians, Reagan Meyer led the way with sectional championships in both the 800 and 1,600. Meyer won the 800 in 2:18.03 and the 1,600 in 5:25.02, while also anchoring St. Vincent’s state-qualifying 3,200-meter relay and sectional champion 1,600-meter relay team.

Brynn Renner qualified for state with a 3rd-place finish in the 400 in 1:01.78, while Kaitlin Lobbig placed 7th in the event in 1:07.16. Anna Welker earned state berths in distance events, finishing 2nd in the 3,200 in 13:01.77 and 7th in the 1,600 in 5:55.77.

St. Vincent’s girls relay teams also shined. The Lady Indians won the 1,600-meter relay in 4:12.39 behind Kaitlin Lobbig, Brynn Renner, Paige Leible and Reagan Meyer. The 3,200-meter relay team of Audrey Amschler, Anna Welker, Adeline Carlton and Reagan Meyer captured the sectional title in 10:24.61, while the 800-meter relay team of Kaitlin Lobbig, Paige Leible, Payton Unterreiner and Renner finished 4th in 1:52.88 to qualify for state.

Other Lady Indians results included Paige Leible, Payton Unterreiner, Sydney Taylor and Emma Moore finishing 6th in the 400-meter relay in 55.03. Sydney Taylor also placed 6th in the triple jump at 8.89 meters.
