Moore named St. Vincent AD

Creston Moore has been involved with St. Vincent High School sports for years, but will soon be taking on a new position as the school’s athletic director.

Moore will be taking over for Jack Rigdon, and will be a familiar face at the school and on the sidelines, as he is deeply rooted in the St. Vincent community. His wife, Amanda, is an alumni of the school and all four of their children attend the school.

Moore’s background in athletics goes back to his playing days in high school and college.

A multi-sport athlete in his native Kansas, Moore moved to Perryville in 2008 and finished his general studies degree at Southeast Missouri State, where he became the director of football operations.

Moore taught science and social studies at St. Vincent Elementary and coached both junior varsity and varsity football.

Moore said after taking a management position away from the school he continued coaching and never lost his passion for sports, eventually finding his way back to the school when the previous athletic director announced his retirement.

“I continued to coach basketball and was an assistant coach on the track team, and when I saw this job was open, I expressed my interest,” Moore said. “I am very passionate about our sports program and when the athletic director resigned, I reached out to see if they had found anybody, so we met a few times and it came down to a few candidates, and I ended up accepting an offer.”

Moore said he will teach physical education classes at St. Vincent on top of his duties as athletic director, which include scheduling games, officials, concessions, game day workers, and other administrative duties surrounding athletics at the school.

Moore said he hopes his time as athletic director will see a continuation of success on the field and in development of student athletes into the members of the community they will become after leaving high school.

“St. Vincent’s sports programs have been very successful over the years, and I hope I can bring my experience in athletics and coaching to continue that trend,” Moore said. “I am a very big advocate in creating leaders on and off the field. I did that a lot during my time teaching, getting kids ready for high school, and then getting high schoolers ready for life after sports. That is my main goal, to create a good, disciplined athletic program, teaching integrity and getting them ready for leadership roles after school.”

Moore will officially begin the job on July 1.

“I am very excited to get started, I am happy for the opportunity they are giving me,” Moore said. “I have been part of the parish community since my wife and I got married, and I hope to continue a very solid sports program built around discipline and integrity and good catholic values. I am ready to hit the ground running in July.”
