Stortz notches 500th career strikeout on senior day

A Perryville softball hit a recently surpassed an impressive milestone.
Perryville senior pitcher Alyson Stortz collected her 500th strikeouts of her career Oct. 3 against St. Pius on what was Perryville’s senior day.
Stortz has been the Pirates’ ace her final season in a Perryville uniform pitching in 20 of the team’s 24 games (18 starts). Stortz has a 1.70 earned run average She has amassed 205 strikeouts this season in 122 innings (out of a possible 148).
Stortz massed just six strikeouts as a freshman in a limited role as the Pirates went 19-9 in 2019.
That number grew to 91 strikeouts in an expanded role that saw her lead the team in innings pitched.
As a junior, Stortz’s strikeouts totals rose tremendously as she had more than 200 strikeouts in 2021. Stortz’s achievements saw her named to the All-State team as the Pirates finished fourth in Class 3. The program’s first trip to state in history. Stortz was a big part of the pitching every inning in the postseason.
As a senior, Stortz has helped Perryville to a 13-11 record and the number three seed in the Class 4, District 1 which began Tuesday.
