JACKSON — St. Vincent placed 4 golfers inside the top 15 and pulled away from the field May 11 to capture the MSHSAA Class 2 District 1 boys golf championship at Bent Creek Golf Course.
The Indians finished with a team score of 323 (+35), comfortably ahead of Jefferson at 347 and Dixon at 350. St. Pius X placed 4th with a 364, while Twin Rivers rounded out the top 5 at 365. Saxony Lutheran finished 8th overall with a 380.
St. Vincent controlled the top of the leaderboard throughout the day behind a balanced lineup led by Samuel Koishor and Brecken Reiss, who tied with rounds of 78 (+6) for first, with Koishor earning medalist honors. Quinton Doza followed closely with a 79 (+7) to tie for 3rd.
Jefferson’s Brody Thomas, St. Pius X’s Landon Thomas and Saxony Lutheran’s Bryce Gaebler each shot 81 (+9) to tie for 5th, while Clearwater’s Mark Reavey finished 8th with an 82 (+10). Dixon’s Parker Doyle carded an 83 (+11) to place 9th, and Jefferson’s Blayne Wilson rounded out the top 10 with an 85 (+13).
Adam Brickhaus gave St. Vincent another top-15 finish with an 88 (+16) to tie for 14th, while Colden Prost shot a 95 (+23) to tie for 30th.
Koishor, Reiss, Doza and Brickhaus were named to the All-District Team.
Saxony Lutheran was led by Gaebler’s top-5 finish, while Ozzie Turner added a 95 (+23) to tie for 30th. Alex Buerck placed 39th with a 99 (+27), Matthew McKee tied for 49th with a 105 (+33) and Allee McKee finished 53rd with a 107 (+35).
With 3 golfers finishing in the top 5 and 4 inside the top 15, St. Vincent separated itself from the field through consistent scoring across the lineup.
The Indians finished 24 strokes ahead of runner-up Jefferson and carried momentum into the postseason after one of their strongest team performances of the spring.
Pirates finish 11th at Bogey Creek
FARMINGTON — Perryville competed against one of the area’s toughest postseason fields May 11 at the MSHSAA Class 4 District 1 boys golf tournament at Bogey Creek Golf Club.
The Pirates finished 11th overall with a team score of 391 (+103) in a tournament won by Notre Dame, which shot a 314 (+26). Rockwood Summit placed 2nd at 322, and Farmington finished 3rd at 327.
Perryville was led by Derek Martin, who continued his strong postseason play with an 84 (+12) to tie for 16th overall. Martin finished tied alongside Festus’ Drew Johnson, Rockwood Summit’s Bradley Wyatt, Lutheran South’s Joshua Fabbiano and Union’s Karter Wideman.
Cape Central’s Seth Ferguson earned medalist honors with a 71, while Farmington’s Tanner Welch placed 2nd with a 72. Notre Dame’s Gary McMullan finished 3rd at 76, and Rockwood Summit’s Noah Collet and Notre Dame’s Tate Shively tied for 4th with 77s.
Treyton Barnett added a 98 for Perryville to tie for 43rd, while Trey Lukefahr shot a 104 to tie for 53rd. Aiden Wendel finished tied for 56th with a 105, and Mason Ehlers rounded out the Pirates’ lineup with a 108 to tie for 60th.
