St. Vincent handles Woodland

OAK RIDGE — St. Vincent (5-4) took an early lead and kept rolling through the rest of the game to claim a 14-5 victory over Woodland on Saturday in the second round of the Oak Ridge Invitational.
The visiting Cardinals (1-5) took a 1-0 lead in the first after Kale Landewee grounded out, allowing one run to score.

St. Vincent wasted no time taking charge — and a 4-1 lead — in the bottom of the second, as Avery Brown hit an RBI single, allowing Nick Buchheit to score, then Eli Abernathy scored on an error scored, and Andrew Hotop singled in Gus Unterreiner and Tyler Henneman.

The Indians extended their lead to 7-1 in the third, then scored 6 runs on 4 hits in the bottom of the sixth.

Andrew Schumer started on the mound for St. Vincent, holding Woodland to 2 runs on 4 hits over 3 2/3 innings, with 1 strike out and 3 walks. Landewee started for Woodland, giving up 7 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits over 3 innings with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. Connor Roth pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief for St. Vincent, allowing 1 hit with 1 strikeout 1 walk.

At plate, St. Vincent finished with 10 hits in the game, led by Unterreiner, who finished 1-for-3 with 3 RBI. Buchheit, Schumer, and Brown had 2 hits each. The Indians also finished with 4 stolen bases.

MEADOW HEIGHTS 7, ST. VINCENT 6
OAK RIDGE — A late, two-run rally by Meadow Heights left St. Vincent with a 1-run loss Friday in the opening round of the Oak Ridge Invitational.

The Indians (4-3) led 6-5 in the top of the fifth when Meadow Heights second baseman Trae Yamnitz hit a 2-RBI single to give the Panthers (5-3) a slim one-run lead that they'd maintain for the rest of the game.
St. Vincent fell behind early, trailing by five runs in the third, but closed the gap by scoring on a sacrifice bunt, a walk, a single, a double, and a single, after Meadow Heights scored five runs on a walk, 3 singles, a double and an error.

That 5-0 lead didn't last long. The Indians scored 6 runs on 5 hits in the bottom of the third, includig a 2-RBI double by Tyler Hennemann, to take a 6-5 lead.

Jacob Seabaugh got he start on the mound for St. Vincent, allowing 7 runs, 6 earned, on 6 hits over 5 innings with 6 strikeouts and no walks. Meadow Heights starter Braeden Hays allowed 6 runs on 8 hits over five innings, striking out 6 and walking 3.

At the plate, Hennemann led the Indians, finishing 1-for-2 with 2 RBI, while Gavin Hotop and Cain Clifton each had 2 hits.

FESTUS 12, PERRYVILLE 6
FESTUS — A 5-run rally in the third wasn't enough for Perryville, as the Pirates (3-4) suffered a 12-6 road loss to Festus on April 9.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the first, when centerfielder Brady Nolen doubled, then stole third and home to give Festus a 1-0 lead. By the middle of the third, the Tigers led 4-0 and the Pirates were ready for a comeback.

Perryville scored 5 runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the inning, including a 2-RBI single from Ty Peeler, to take a 5-4 lead.

Festus tied the score in the fourth with an RBI double, then added two more runs on a single and a wild pitch to take a 7-5 lead. Peeler scored in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch to make it 7-6 for the Pirates, but that would be the final score for Perryville.

Festus scored 5 runs on 5 hits in the top of the seventh inning to secure the victory.

Bryce Weber pitched 4 1/3 innings in relief for Perryville, allowing 8 runs on 9 hits while striking out 3 and walking 5. Starter Hunter Elder gave up 4 runs on 2 hits in 2 1/3 innings, striking out none and walking 4. Festus' Jackson Smith gave up 5 runs on 3 hits, striking out 6 and walking 1.

At the plate for Perryville, first baseman Waylon Huber finished 1-for-4 with 3 RBI. Peeler went 2-for-3 with 2 of the Pirates' 7 stolen bases.

SAXONY LUTHERAN 11, CHARLESTON 1
Senior first baseman Isaac Koenig drove in 4 runs on 2 hits to lead Saxony Lutheran (5-4) past Charleston (1-7) 11-1 on April 9.

Koenig, who finished 2-for-3 at the plate, homered to left field in the second inning, scoring two, and singled in the fifth, scoring two more.
Koenig, Baylor Wilson, and Cole Roth combined for 6 of the team's 9 hits in the victory, scoring 4 runs and driving in 6.

The Crusaders took an early lead in the first on a wild pitch, then added 5 runs in the bottom of the second inning on 4 hits, including Koenig's home run, a single from Zach Roth, and a double from Korby Engert.
Saxony added 5 more runs on 3 hits in the bottom of the fifth to secure the victory.

James Hope earned the win for Saxony, giving up 1 unearned run on 3 hits over 4 innings of work, striking out 8 and walking 1. Engert pitched 1 inning in relief for the Crusaders, striking out 1.

Wilson led Saxony Lutheran at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Zach Roth was 2-for-3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI.

PERRYVILLE 8, ADVANCE 4
Perryville trailed early, but scored 5 runs on 3 hits in the fifth inning to take the lead on the way to an 8-4 home victory over Advance on April 8.

The Pirates (3-2), who trailed 3-1 after 4 innings, started their rally in the bottom of the fifth when Barrett Wheeler legged out an inside-the-park home run. With two outs in the inning and one on base, Pirates first baseman Dalton Fritsche singled to left, sending Troy O'Keefe to second, then Gideon Steuve singled to left again, and a 3-run error gave Perryville a 6-3 lead.

Each team added runs in the sixth, but Perryville managed to hang on to their lead.

Evan Hayden strted on the mound first for Perryville and gave up 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 1 and walking in five innings of work. O'Keefe wrapped it up in relief, giving up 1 run on 1 hit with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in 2 innings of work. Jameson Hamlin started for Advance and gave up 6 runs, 2 earned, on 3 hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out 9 and walking 2.

Wheeler finished 2-for-3 at the plate, with 2 of the team's 4 stolen bases.
