Schremp breaks SV shot put record

A record has fallen for St. Vincent track and field.
St. Vincent junior Jacob Schremp set a new school record for the shot put at the DeSoto Invitational on April 21.
Schremp threw a distance 42-2 to finish 10th at the meet.
“Jacob started track last year and that’s something he’s been working toward,” St. Vincent track coach Angie Hudson said. He’s wanted to break the school throwing records. He came close last year when we got close to the postseason, but didn’t quite get there. I was very excited for him.”
Hudson said that Schremp himself was surprised he broke the record as well.
“He was very shocked,” Hudson said. “I know he has been working very hard toward reaching that goal. It’s nice to finally see all that hard work pay off for him.”

Schremp has set personal best throws several times this year and Hudson would not be surprised if he set the record once more at future meets.
“We will see,” Hudson said. “He’s having a good season so far this year with a lot of PRs. We have Conference meet this week and district next weekend. Who knows what could happen.”
Schremp started with St. Vincent track as a sophomore and has some family history in throwing events.
“He wanted to go into throwing when he first started,” Hudson said. “Jacob has an older sister who threw for us a few years back. It’s like a family competition for him.”
Hudson said that the shout put distance puts Schremp in contention to get out of districts and make a run at state.
“That score puts him right around fifth when you look at people within our district.” she said. “If he continues to work hard I think he can make a run in the postseason.”
