Saxony Lutheran junior pole vaulter Casey Call is off to a good start in the 2025 outdoor season.
She ended 2024 with a sixth-place finish at the MSHSAA Class 2 state track meet after clearing 2.8 meters. Her personal best for the season was 3.11, recorded at the Class 2, District 1 meet on May 4, earning her the No. 3 spot — as rated by MoMileSplit.com — among Class 2 returners this season, trailing Butler's Tandee Hiser and reigning Class 2 state champion Mollie Andrews of Archie. As of April 14, Call is tied for the No. 2 spot with Andrews, with both chasing top-ranked Hiser, who has topped out thus far at 3.66 meters.
Call has shown steady progression since her freshman year, when she claimed first place at the 2023 SEMO Conference meet after clearing 2.59 meters. This season, she’s recorded a new personal best of 3.2 meters — earning her first place — at the RCVC Rainout Invitational on April 5 at the River City Vault Club in Cape Girardeau, topping two Hillsboro vaulters, Maleah Lambrich (3.05) and Caroline Kohler (2.59), in the process. Call has finished in the top 3 in five meets this year, including two first-place finishes.
Most recently, Call finished third at the Cape Central Invite on Saturday, clearing 3.05, just behind Notre Dame’s Abigail Spooler (3.18) and Ft. Zumwalt East’s Avery Foster (3.18).
In other action at the meet, Call also finished ninth in the high jump, clearing 1.32 meters.
Teammate Rebecca Yunck was second in the javelin at 32.39 meters, ahead of Alivia Miget, who was sixth at 26.47. Yunck also finished eighth in the long jump at 4.67, just ahead of Raylee Matthews, who was ninth at 4.65. Myra Roth was fourth in the 1,600 meters, finishing in 5 minutes, 55.17 seconds; Abigail Haley was fifth in the 100 hurdles in 17.55; while Saxony’s relay teams finished fourth in the 3,200 relay (11:36.21), fifth in the 1,600 relay (4:36.32), seventh in the 800 relay (1:57.78) and ninth in the 400 relay (59.64).
On the boys side for Saxony, Maksim Mayhew was fourth in the 400 at 53.83 seconds and eighth in the long jump at 5.64 meters, Matthew Hitt was ninth in the 3,200 at 12:30.52, Kai McDowell was 10th in the 400 at 56.50, Jake Biri was 10th in the discus at 30.37, and Clark Jones was 10th in the javelin at 36.98 meters.
St. Vincent also competed in the Cape Central Invite, with Anna Welker placing ninth in the 1,600 at 6:18.93 and Luke Ryan finishing eighth in the 3,200 at 12:15.14. The Indians’ boys 3,200 relay finished seventh in 10:42.78.
On April 8, Saxony participated in the Pacific Invitational in Pacific, where Call took first place in the pole vault, clearing 3.05 meters, ahead of teammate Sarah Seabaugh, who was fourth at 2.6. Yunck was second in the javelin at 30.28 meters and Call was eighth at 25.44. In the long jump, Yunck was sixth at 4.53, and in the 400, she was seventh in 1:08.37.
Seabaugh tied for sixth in 100 with teammate Timora Criddle at 13.94; Myra Roth was ninth in the 1,600 at 6:11.39; Sadie Elmore was eighth in the 100 at 20.15; the 3,200 relay team was fourth in 11:27.46; and the 1,600 relay was fifth in 4:53.15.
On the boys’ side, Nashaun Davis was second in the 110 hurdles, finishing in 16.17, sixth in the 200 at 24.06, and eighth in the high jump at 1.6 meters; and Jones was fourth in the long jump at 5.78 and ninth in javelin at 34.51.
Weston Jeter was fifth in the triple jump at 11.48 and seventh in the 100 with a time of 11.86, just ahead of Maksim Mayhew, who was sixth in the 400 at 54.48. Nicolas Chambless was sixth in the 800 at 2:19.25 and 10th in the 1,600 at 5:16.96; and Evan Ward was ninth in the 3,200, finishing in 13:16.97, just ahead of Hitt, who was 10th in 13:17.62.
