Brigid Sauer knew exactly what kind of college she wanted to attend after graduating from St. Vincent High School in May.
“Well, it's kind of funny,” she said. “I didn't know if I wanted to commit to a four-year university because of injuries and things like that, but I know that I have a passion for the game, so I've always wanted to continue to play in college.”
Sauer finally chose East Central College in Union.
“I had a few schools reach out. I wanted to be farther away from home but not too far. I wanted to be somewhere that I could drive back on the weekend. So, distance was a big thing, and then I also have family in that area. It’s also not super-expensive.”
Sauer has played volleyball since fifth grade, is also a cheerleader and plays French horn in the school band.
Asked how he felt about his daughter signing with East Central College, Sauer’s father, James, said, “I think it's wonderful,” he said. Earning a scholarship really helps our family financially. We've been lucky to send three kids for at least two years in school without cost because of scholarships and A-plus programs, so we're very blessed.”
Sauers mother, Cheri, said, “We're just so proud of her. She's worked very, very hard in all the sports that she does, and it's improved her just in leaps and bounds. So it's her dedication that got us here.”
