Purple Up! Day proclaimed by Mayor

Perryville Mayor, Larry Riney, proclaims Monday, April 15, 2024 as Purple Up! Day to honor our military children along with American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 133 President, Carol Taylor and Donna Ballman, American Legion Auxiliary Americanism and Children & Youth Committee.
Life can seem like a never-ending series of emotional adjustments and unique experiences for the 1.6 million children in military families. It can be the challenge of coping with sadness or worry when their service member parent leaves the home for deployments. It can be the impact on children having to change locations, schools and friends when military families are required to move every two to three years.

In recognition and celebration of these children and their sacrifices, April was designated as Month of the Military Child by U.S. Defense Secretary, Caspar Weinberger in 1986. Purple Up! Day — April 15 — is part of the month-long celebration. Purple symbolizes a combination of the colors of each branch of the U.S. military: Army green, Navy blue, Air Force blue, Marines red, and Coast Guard blue.
Auxiliary members wore their Purple Up! Shirts at their recent meeting on Tuesday, April 2 to encourage others to participate in Purple Up! Day on Monday, April 15, 2024 by wearing purple to honor and support our military children.
