PEVELY — Perryville senior Nate Moll and junior Derek Martin finished with a tournament-low 1-over par 73, while seniors Jake Cissell and Wyatt Schremp shot an 80 to lead the Pirates to an overall victory in the Windsor Varsity Scramble Invitational at Oak Valley Golf Course in Pevely on March 31.
The tournament, which featured nine different teams, was just the latest in a string of good performances from the Pirates.
“We've got off to a really, really good start on season,” said PHS coach Justin Dreyer. “We’re 4-1 to start the year. And with that tournament win, it's been a really good start.”
Dreyer added that his JV squad has had similar success and is also 4-1 on the season, led by several different golfers this year, including Jay Ingels, Jacob Bergman, Aiden Wendel, and Mason Ehlers.
“We felt like we could have a good year this year,” Dreyer said. “We've got a very veteran group. Our whole varsity is juniors or seniors and most of them have been playing varsity golf for at least two years, if not three. It's good to see them progress throughout the years and we’re looking forward to a really good year.
