PHS, Saxony tie for 19th

FESTUS — The track and field teams from Perryville and Saxony Lutheran high schools had a bit of a rough showing at the McCullough-Douglas Invitational on March 29 in Festus.

The girls’ teams from both schools tied for 19th in the 28-team field with eight points each, while the Perryville boys squad finished 27th out of 30 teams that placed. Saxony’s boys did not score in the team standings. Festus won the girls’ side of the meet with 106 points and Columbia Rock Bridge won the boys’ team title with 102 points.

Despite the rough team showings, The Lady Pirates and Lady Crusaders recorded a few good finishes in individual competition, led by Saxony Lutheran junior Casey Call, who finished third in the pole vault, clearing 3.2 meters. Teammate Abigail Haley finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.46 seconds.

For Perryville, senior Ellie Gerler finished fourth in the shot put at 10.65 meters and fifth in the discus at 33.07.

On the boys’ side for Perryville, junior Ben Huber was fifth in the discus at 43.57 meters, while Saxony junior Nashaun Davis finished 10th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.77. In the long jump, Saxony junior Weston Jeter was 10th, clearing 5.91 meters.
