PHS boys fall in consolation title game in Woodland Invitational

The Perryville boys fell just short on the final day of the Woodland Invitational Tournament.
Despite a hot shooting night, the Pirates fell 69-59 in the consolation championship game on Friday.
The Pirates connected on 10 three-pointers in the game and Meadow Heights was equally as efficient with a pair of 20 point quarters in the first half to keep pace.
Braeden Hays scored a game-high 29 points in the win for Meadow Heights, including 14 in the first quarter. Damion Hulbert added another 14 points for the Panthers.
Barrett Wheeler led the Pirates with 18 points. Jake Cissell scored 17 points on five three-point baskets. the duo combined to score more than half of the Pirate points.
Perryville vs Zalma

The Pirates came out on fire in the consolation semifinals and rode that momentum to a 70-26 victory over Zalma on Nov. 30.
Aiden Wendell scored 10 of his 16 points in the first quarter to pace the Pirates, who went up 26-9 after the opening quarter. Jake Cissell scored 16 points with four three-point baskets as the two players led Perryville in the scorebook. Evan Hayden was the other player in double figures with 13 points
The Pirates scored double figures in each quarter and led 44-22 at the half. The Pirate defense asserted itself in the third quarter outscoring Zalma 16-4 in the third quarter.
First round
Perryville fell to Oak Ridge 66-47 in the opening round of the Woodland Invitational Tournament on Nov. 28. Perryville was led by Jake Cassell, who scored 17 points, including four baskets from the three-point line.
Barrett Wheeler scored the second-most point for the Pirates with eight. The second quarter was the Pirates undoing as they were outscored 22-4 in the quarter and were behind 39-15 at the half.
