Perryville controlled much of the match against its crosstown rival.
Perryville found its stride early on and won in four sets over St. Vincent 25-18, 25-13, 23-25, 25-17 on Thursday in the annual Hope Game at the Pery Park Center.
For St. Vincent volleyball coach Darren Verseman, he felt like his team didn’t play the best game.
“We haven’t really put together a stretch of solid play for much of the season,” he said, “We have had injuries and that has made younger girls step into roles that they are not comfortable with. We didn’t pass well enough to go deep on our bench.”
Perryville jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the first set, and St. Vincent battled back to just 14-13 deficit.
Perryville reeled off runs of three and five points to take the set, which would become a theme for the match.

Perryville was ahead 13-12 in the second set before winning 11 straight points to take the second set.
St. Vincent took the third set, but almost gave it away on several occasions. The Indians went up 23-17, before Perryville made a run to narrow the margin to 23-20 and 24-23.
“I think they were amped up and were trying to block everything we sent over.,” Verseman said. “That caused them to get a few net violations, but I was glad we took at least one set off of them.”
St. Vincent was led by Kamille Graham with nine kills, while Emersyn Pitts added eight and Macy Lukefahr had six.
Maddie Dobbelare led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
Before the varsity game, there was a short ceremony honoring those who have been diganosed with cancer including Kacey Berbuegler and Pat Wibbenmeyer.
“We all know someone who has had to go through things like that,” Verseman said. “They did a great job putting everything together and honoring everyone.
