MoDOT proposes roundabout at Route 51/72 intersection

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) held a public meeting July 9 to discuss plans to improve the Route 51/72 intersection in Patton.

During the meeting held at MoDOT’s Patton maintenance facility, the project’s proposed construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Route 51 and 72 was discussed. Currently, the intersection has stop signs on Route 51, with traffic on Route 72 moving freely.

According to MoDOT, using roundabouts to manage some intersections allows traffic to flow with little to no stopping, which results in calmer traffic, a reduced likelihood of severe crashes, and motorists arriving at their destination “quicker and safer.”

The project, tentatively scheduled to be let in January 2025, could see construction begin as early as March 2025. The work will be staged to minimize disruptions, with the intersection remaining open with only minor impacts as tie-ins to the existing roadway are completed. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2025.
