Gerler qualifies for state in shot put

Perryville track will send one athlete to state.
Sophomore Ellie Gerler finished fourth in the shot put to advance to the state meet during the Class 4 sectional in Hillsboro Saturday.
Gerler threw a distance of 34-11.25 in the event to edge Windsor’s Abigail Holland (34-5.0) by just more than six inches.
Perryville also sent a pair of seniors and a relay team to the event as well, but they did not finish inside the top four of their respective events to qualify.
Tegan Bishop finished eighth in the 1,600 meter run at 5:38.09, which was 13 seconds off the pace to qualify.
Bishop finished seventh in the 3,200 meter run at 12:10.33 and was 11 seconds off the pace to qualify.
The same could be said for Hallee Wengert who finished eighth in the 100 meter dash at 13.23 seconds and was 0.39 seconds from qualifying. She also finished eighth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.61, which was 1.60 seconds from qualification.
The boys team sent its 4x100 team, which finished seventh in their event with a time of 44.38.
Gerler will move on to state which will be in Jefferson City.
