The Perryville Garden Club held its first meeting of the gardening season Wednesday, March 20, at the Robinson Event Center.

President Ruth Brown welcomed members and guests. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by prayer and a meal.

Brown then introduced the evening’s speaker, Mary Thompson, who presented a program titled “Learn How to Make a Barn Quilt.”

Thompson walked attendees through the process of designing, planning and painting a barn quilt on wood. She shared tips she has learned over the years, including using multiple coats of exterior paint, applying FrogTape to create clean grid patterns, and selecting marine-grade plywood for durability. She also noted that finished barn quilts can be displayed outdoors or indoors, including on gates.

Following the presentation, members shared their own experiences creating barn quilts.

Agendas for the upcoming year were distributed, outlining a variety of activities and planned field trips to area gardens and greenhouses.

Activities Director Vennie Leuckel announced a change in location for the club’s annual plant sale. The sale will be held May 8 and 9 at the American Legion in conjunction with Mayfest.

The club’s next meeting is scheduled for April 15 and will focus on post office beautification and work at the senior center. After completing the projects, members will reconvene at the Robinson Event Center around 6 p.m.
