Poppy Poster Contest Winner: Perryville High School student Allyson Wright won the Department of Missouri, Class VI Poppy Poster Contest at the state level. American Legion Auxiliary District 13 President Roselee Buatte presented her with the award and a check for $25. Wright’s poster will be submitted for competition at the American Legion Auxiliary National Convention, which will be held Aug. 23 – 29 in New Orleans, La. New Officers Installed: American Legion Auxiliary, District 13 President Roselee Buatte, installed the Unit 133 officers for the 2024-2025 year at its monthly meeting held Aug. 6. The new officers were congratulated and thanked for their dedicated service to the ALA organization and supporting veterans and their families. Quilt Presentation: American Legion Post 133 member Bill Wengert was presented with a handmade red/white/blue quilt in recognition and gratitude for his many years of serving veterans. Unit Member of the Year: AL Auxiliary Unit 133 member Norma Wengert won the Department of Missouri Unit Member of the Year Award at the state level. She was presented the award by American Legion Auxiliary, District 13 President Roselee Buatte. Wengert served as the ALA, Unit 133 Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation Chair for 16 years and volunteers in multiple capacities to serve veterans. She and her husband, Bill, visited the nursing home in Perryville and the veterans’ home in Jackson every month for the past 22 years. Her husband plays music, and she organizes bingo to entertain the veterans. The couple has also organized and delivered Christmas packages to the veterans at various nursing homes in the area. She has arranged for veterans to enjoy a meal at the Perryville American Legion Clubroom and delivered 50 meals to the veterans’ home in St. Mary.
